WHAT IS FINANCE FOR NON-FINANCE PROFESSIONALS?

Finance for Non-Finance Professionals is a practical training programme designed to help managers and professionals without a specialist finance background understand financial information and use it in business decision-making. The programme covers financial statements, financial analysis, ratios, cash flow, financial mathematics, costing, pricing, budgeting, forecasting, investment appraisal and AI-assisted financial analysis.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND FINANCE FOR NON-FINANCE PROFESSIONALS?

The programme is designed for managers, executives, supervisors and other professionals whose roles involve budgets, costs, revenues, investments, projects or other decisions with financial consequences. It is particularly relevant to professionals working in operations, procurement, supply chain, sales, marketing, human resources, administration, project management and general management who want to become more financially confident without becoming accountants.

DO I NEED A FINANCE OR ACCOUNTING BACKGROUND?

No specialist finance or accounting background is required. Financial concepts are introduced progressively and linked to practical business situations. The objective is not to turn participants into accountants, but to help them understand the numbers, ask better financial questions and participate more confidently in business and financial discussions.

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THIS FINANCE FOR NON-FINANCE COURSE?

Participants learn how to understand Income Statements, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow Statements; interpret important financial ratios and performance indicators; understand working capital and cash flow; apply basic financial mathematics; analyse costs and profitability; prepare and interpret budgets and forecasts; and evaluate investment projects using techniques including Payback, Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).

DOES THE COURSE COVER BUDGETING, COSTING AND CASH FLOW?

Yes. The programme examines budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis, working capital management, fixed and variable costs, contribution margins, break-even analysis, pricing decisions and cash flow. Particular attention is given to understanding how operational and managerial decisions ultimately affect profitability, liquidity and financial performance.

DOES THE PROGRAMME COVER INVESTMENT DECISIONS?

Yes. Participants are introduced to the financial principles used to assess capital expenditure and investment projects. The programme covers Time Value of Money, Payback and Discounted Payback, Net Present Value, Internal Rate of Return, Profitability Index and the relationship between risk and return. The emphasis is on understanding what these measures mean and how they can support better business decisions.

HOW IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE USED IN THE COURSE?

The programme includes a dedicated AI Toolbox for Finance for Non-Finance Professionals. Participants explore how Artificial Intelligence can assist with financial statement analysis, budgeting, variance analysis, forecasting and scenario modelling. They also learn how to structure effective prompts and refine AI outputs. AI is treated as a decision-support tool: human judgement, verification and accountability remain essential.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE HELP ME AS A MANAGER OR PROFESSIONAL?

Financial literacy improves the quality of decisions well beyond the Finance Department. A manager who understands margins, costs, cash flow, budgets, working capital and investment returns is better equipped to assess alternatives, challenge assumptions, explain decisions and understand their financial consequences. The programme therefore focuses not simply on calculating numbers, but on interpreting them and using them intelligently.

IS FINANCE FOR NON-FINANCE PROFESSIONALS AVAILABLE IN MAURITIUS?

Yes. Finance for Non-Finance Professionals is delivered in Mauritius by Knowledge of the ART Academy as a structured professional training programme. The course combines financial concepts with practical business applications and contemporary AI-assisted financial analysis.

WHAT IS THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF FINANCE FOR NON-FINANCE PROFESSIONALS?

The objective is straightforward: to give non-finance professionals enough financial understanding to make better-informed business decisions. Participants should leave the programme more comfortable reading financial information, discussing financial performance, questioning assumptions and understanding the financial impact of the decisions they make.
